Spirits High at Maplewood’s Halloween Pumpkin Carving Event
Date of Event: October 30, 2024
Location: Maplewood Academy Courtyard & Student Commons
A Gourd Time Was Had by All
In the spirit of fall fun and community celebration, Maplewood Academy hosted its annual Halloween Pumpkin Carving Event on October 30, 2024. Students, faculty, and residence staff came together to carve, decorate, and display their most creative pumpkin designs in a lively, laughter-filled afternoon.
Held in the school courtyard and Student Commons, the event offered students a break from academic pressures and a chance to get creative with friends. Tables were lined with pumpkins of all shapes and sizes, along with carving tools, paints, stencils, and plenty of spooky inspiration.
A Festive Blend of Fun and Creativity
Students carved everything from classic jack-o’-lantern faces to maple leaf designs, cartoon characters, haunted houses, and even abstract art. Friendly competitions were held for “Funniest Pumpkin,” “Most Creative Design,” and “Spookiest Carving,” with small prizes awarded to the winners.
For many of our international boarding students, it was their first time carving a pumpkin—and the joy of discovery and cultural exchange made the event even more special.
“It’s not just about carving pumpkins,” said one student. “It’s about slowing down, laughing together, and creating memories that make school feel like home.”
Special Moment: The Pumpkin Gallery Glow
As dusk fell, the pumpkins were lit and displayed in a glowing gallery in the courtyard, drawing crowds of students and staff for photos, laughter, and late-night snacks. With cider, candy, and fall music in the air, it was a perfect close to a memorable event.
