On May 3, 2024, Maplewood Academy students took part in a thrilling and skill-building Archery Field Trip at 40 Continental Place in Scarborough. Organized as part of the school’s physical education enrichment program, the field trip offered students an opportunity to explore a unique sport that emphasizes focus, discipline, and coordination.

Led by certified archery instructors, students received hands-on training in safety protocols, proper stance, aiming techniques, and scoring rules. For many, it was their first time holding a bow—and by the end of the session, even beginners were hitting targets with confidence.

The archery trip is part of Maplewood’s commitment to providing students with diverse and active learning experiences beyond the classroom. Alongside the physical challenge, students learned about the historical significance of archery in various cultures and how mental focus plays a key role in performance—both in sports and in academics.

“I didn’t think I’d enjoy it this much,” said Grade 11 student Kynthia Jiang. “It really teaches you how to slow down, breathe, and trust yourself.”

One highlight of the day was the “Final Round Challenge,” where students competed in friendly rounds to test accuracy and consistency. Cheers erupted when two students landed back-to-back bullseyes, earning applause from classmates and instructors alike.
