Yes, MWA welcomes applications from international students, provided that the student:
- Hold a valid Study Permit, Permanent Residency, or Canadian Citizenship
- Pay all tuition and associated fees, including any applicable international student fees, in full upon acceptance of an Offer of Admission
Domestic Student Eligibility
Applicants may be considered domestic students if their parent or legal guardian holds valid Canadian status—such as Permanent Residency, a Work Permit, a Study Permit, or Diplomatic status—and meet the following conditions:
- The parent/guardian with valid status must be residing in Canada with the student, specifically in the province of Ontario, while the student is enrolled at Maplewood Academy.
- The student must hold valid Canadian Citizenship, Permanent Residency, or a Study Permit.
If the parent or guardian does not reside in Ontario with the student, the application will be processed under international student status, regardless of the parent’s immigration status. For further clarification, please contact our Admissions Office at [email protected]
While Maplewood Academy does not typically accept new students mid-year, we understand that certain circumstances—such as family relocation, school closure, or other exceptional situations—may require a transition during the academic year.
In such cases, we review applications on an individual basis, considering both the availability of space and the student’s ability to integrate successfully into the program. Families seeking mid-year entry are encouraged to contact the Admissions Office at admissions@maplewoodacademy.net to discuss their specific situation before submitting an application.
Applicants are not required to submit formal reference letters directly. Instead, during the application process, you will be asked to provide the name and email address of one adult (not a relative) who knows the applicant through academic, extracurricular, or community involvement. This individual will be sent a Confidential Reference Form.
Our preference is for the reference to come from a current or former teacher, coach, or program leader. However, if that is not possible, a neighbour or close family friend who knows the applicant well is acceptable.
To ensure a fair and consistent review of all applicants, only the documents specifically requested in the application checklist will be considered. Please do not send additional reference letters, certificates, or awards. These accomplishments are most welcome to be shared during the admissions interview.
Admissions Assessment
Applicants will participate in interactive one-on-one and small-group sessions with Maplewood Academy teachers. These age-appropriate activities are designed to assess the applicant’s current English language proficiency, literacy, numeracy, and communication skills in the context of our academic environment. No preparation is necessary.
All assessments for admission to Grade 9 and above are typically conducted in person at our campus. However, for students who do not live locally or are unable to travel due to exceptional circumstances, a virtual assessment may be arranged. These assessments are designed to uphold the same standards of evaluation as in-person sessions.
If shortlisted, parent interviews may also be conducted virtually or in person based on family availability and location.
Please contact the Admissions Office at admissions@maplewoodacademy.net to discuss assessment arrangements.
The best way to support your child in preparing for the assessment is to ensure they arrive well-rested, healthy, and relaxed. No formal preparation is required or expected. In fact, we encourage families to avoid putting pressure on the experience—students perform best when they feel comfortable and at ease. Our assessment activities are designed to be engaging, age-appropriate, and reflective of everyday learning environments.
Applying to MWA
Parents or guardians of shortlisted applicants will be invited to schedule an interview with a member of the Admissions Team or the School Principal. This conversation is an opportunity for us to learn more about your child and family, and for you to ask any remaining questions about Maplewood Academy or the admissions process.
Interviews may be conducted in person or virtually, depending on your location and availability. Specific interview formats and participants may vary slightly depending on the applied program of the applicant. Full details will be provided if your child is selected for this stage.
OSSD program: Applicant Only
STEM AP program: Applicant with parent/guardian.
Admissions Decisions
Each applicant is reviewed individually, with careful attention to their academic readiness, character, and potential contribution to the school community. In addition, we consider the overall composition of the applicant pool to ensure the development of a well-rounded and balanced class.
Please note that the number of spaces available at each grade level varies from year to year, and this may influence final admission decisions. Our goal is to build dynamic cohorts that reflect the diversity, talent, and values of the Maplewood Academy community.

If your child has been placed in the waitlist pool, it means they have met Maplewood Academy’s admissions requirements; however, due to limited space availability, we are unable to offer a place at this time.
We encourage families to keep their application file up to date by submitting the most recent report cards and informing the Admissions Office if they wish their child’s file to remain active for the following academic year.
Should additional spaces become available, applicants in the waitlist pool will be reviewed on an ongoing basis. Families being considered for a second round of offers will be contacted directly by our Admissions Team.
The waitlist pool remains open until the end of August. For any updates or questions, please reach out to admissions@maplewoodacademy.net.
MWA Life
At Maplewood Academy, we believe that learning doesn’t stop when the school day ends. Our after-school office hours provide students with access to academic support, homework assistance, and quiet study time in a structured environment. Led by faculty members, this aftercare program helps students reinforce their understanding, build strong study habits, and stay on track academically.
Saturday Language Advancement (Optional & Paid)
To further support global learning, Maplewood Academy offers optional Saturday language advancement classes in English. These paid enrichment courses are open to students who wish to strengthen their language skills, deepen cultural understanding, or gain extra support beyond the regular curriculum. Classes are interactive, small-group based, and tailored to a range of proficiency levels.
Both programs are available to current students and reflect our commitment to academic excellence and personal growth. For details on schedules and fees, please contact the school office.

Yes. To support students living in our on-campus residence, especially those housed farther from the main academic buildings, Maplewood Academy (MWA) offers an optional morning shuttle service. This service is designed to ensure timely and safe transportation to class each day, providing added convenience and peace of mind for both students and their families.
The shuttle runs on a fixed schedule and is available to residential students upon request. For more information about routes, timing, or registration, please contact the Residence Office or Admissions Team.
No. Maplewood Academy does not offer a formal lunch program, as we believe in supporting the individual dietary preferences and independence of our students. Located in the heart of Midtown Toronto, our campus is surrounded by a wide variety of restaurants, cafés, and food options, allowing students to choose meals that best suit their tastes and needs. Students are also welcome to bring their own lunch and enjoy it in designated areas on campus.
