Application Requirements
Maplewood Academy welcomes students from a variety of language backgrounds. As part of the admissions process, all applicants undergo an English language assessment to determine their current level of proficiency.
Before applying to Grade 8 and above at Maplewood Academy, prospective students and their families should review the following information:
English Language Proficiency & ESL Support
Students who require additional support will be placed in our English as a Second Language (ESL) program, which is designed to help learners develop the academic language skills necessary to succeed in an English-speaking environment. ESL instruction is fully integrated into the Maplewood experience and tailored to support student success across the curriculum.
Language Learning at Maplewood
Students in Grades 8–10 take a second language—French or Mandarin—as part of our regular curriculum. Prior experience is not required, as we accommodate a range of proficiency levels. Students in Grade 11 may choose to continue in French or Mandarin, or begin Spanish.
To ensure appropriate placement, some applicants may be asked to complete a short language assessment in French or Mandarin during the admissions process.
